Are you wondering what a Literacy Center is, exactly?
My classroom uses an Integrated Curriculum,
meaning that my Language Arts, Science, & Social Studies
are all intertwined. The term "Literacy Center" has evolved into "Managed Independent Learning Centers,"
or M I L Centers, for short.

If you are a parent or teacher who would like to see some of the
Center Response Sheets or Activities that I use in my classroom, please visit the following link:
Managed Independent Learning Center Activities. Teachers, you will find many activities that will help you as you plan your classroom centers. Parents, you will find some fun and useful activities that will help develop your child's reading skills.
Students use a Job Board to plan where they will go
during their Literacy Center time. The icons on the Job Board correspond to a Planning Sheet inside their Literacy Folders. Students take their folders with them as they travel from center to center. They are responsible for coloring in the icon each time that they complete a center. We go over our rules for center
behavior at the beginning of the year, so every child knows what is expected of them during this block of time.
While students are actively engaged in their various centers,
Mrs. B is at her reading table, conducting a Guided Reading group.
